Drive a Senior Northwest
“Are you available to provide a ride for someone?” is a call I get sometimes from our volunteer office. It may be for a ride for a medical appointment, to be picked up after their dialysis treatment, to attend Mass, or to go shopping. Many of us at Peace are volunteers with Faith in Action, Drive a Senior, Northwest who “drive a senior” somewhere. . We help men and women who are not able to drive or should not be driving. I especially like to help people who are on kidney dialysis. Read more…
Meals on Wheels
I started delivering meals during my lunch hour while working for IBM in 2000. It was super simple. When someone is trying to dip their toe into volunteering, Meals on Wheels delivery is a perfect start. The commitment can be as little as once a month delivery for an hour. We all have an hour! Say It Loud: I’m Black and I’m Proud – Anti-Blackness, Oppression, and the Dehumanization of Black Bodies
The focus of this session is on the experience of being black. What is it like to walk through the world today in a black body? We will start to grapple with conscious and unconscious bias and acknowledge that we all hold them. Our job is not to eliminate them – that’s impossible – but to recognize them and understand how they influence our beliefs, assumptions and experiences.

JHaMS at AC is usually four days at Austin College with dozens of your closest rising 6th-9th grade friends. But this year, we’re going all online – but not like boring Zoom calls – this is going to be fun and interactive and possibly weird at times, but in a good way.

Christmas Cookies from Cambodia – The Bible and Race in America
This week we will take a deep dive into the Bible and consider how it has been used—and misused—in conversations about race throughout US history. We’ll deal with the concept of “the other,” a thread that runs through the entire Biblical narrative. Alongside it runs the all-too-human impulse to divide ourselves into groups that include some and exclude others.
