Peace is an Early Voting Site

The Peace Council has voted that Peace become a Travis County early voting site for the election from October 13-30 in addition to supporting the voting on election day November 3, 2020.

What this means for Peace:
– Early voting starts October 13 (setup 9th or 12th) and ends October 30th.
– Voting is 7 am until 7 pm each day except Sunday 12 pm until 7 pm.
– We should expect 1000 people per day for the 18 days and another 1000 for the election November 3.
– There will be signs–everywhere.
– Travis County will supply tables, chairs, disinfecting supplies and will sanitize after as they did with the runoff election.
– Travis County wants a 30 by 30 foot space for the 9 voting machines in order to social distance participants with 8 staff members. Our Narthex is close to that but does not provide enough space with electrical plugs to make it safe for social distancing. We plan to open up the Sanctuary as well as the Narthex and make it available to voters. We will move chairs and the piano over to the side and rope them off.
– We will need to put together a team of Peace volunteers (at least 6 people) to provide coverage for the 18 days. The volunteers would check on things via phone once a day and be on call for any issues.

Contact Becky Reinhart, property@peaceaustin.org, if you are able to volunteer or have any questions.

This is an exception to our regathering plan. It serves the community with our empty space, but also provides excellent visibility for our congregation in the community. We would encourage Peace members not to enter the Sanctuary Building unless absolutely necessary during this period to eliminate any risk of COVID-19. The Education Building will remain closed.
