Hill Country Community Ministries Holiday Meals Project
Update: We raised over $1,900 for holiday meals, serving over 76 families. Thanks for your generous support of our neighbors in need!
Each year we find that families in our neighborhood need assistance with their holiday meals. With the pandemic this need is greater than ever. Peace is raising money throughout October to supply meals to those in need through our partnership with Hill Country Community Ministries (HCCM).

National Coming Out Day is Oct 11

One way to show your support is by helping Out Youth. Out Youth promotes the well being of sexual and gender minority youth, so they can openly and safely explore and affirm their identities. Their vision is a world where the youth is supported to develop positive self-images, empower themselves, and become active citizens in their communities!

Mobile Loaves & Fishes is Back

We are once again able to serve the community from the Mobile Loaves and Fishes truck. The ML&F truck will deliver only pre-bagged meals. No drinks, clothing or spiritual items will be on the truck. A full team won’t be necessary, 2-3 volunteers should be enough. Our date for taking meals out continues to be the second Saturday of the month. We ask that no one who is at high risk for Covid go out.

Blessing of the Animals

We invite the animals in your household to receive a special blessing on Sunday October 4 at 11:15 on Zoom as we bless our pets and all creation in our care during a special gathering following the worship service. Check the weekly email update for the link or email us.

Peace is an Early Voting Site

The Peace Council has voted that Peace become a Travis County early voting site for the election from October 13-30 in addition to supporting the voting on election day November 3, 2020.
What this means for Peace:

Fall Landscaping Opportunities

We are doing a “full court press” to get the Peace campus looking its best for the fall. Peace is blessed with a beautiful 3.85 acre campus in the middle of a bustling community.
As the church re-opens, there will be more and more scheduled events out of doors.

What? Me Worry?

Matthew 6:25-26, 34 :  Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Confirmation Starts Sunday 9/27/2020

Our new year of Confirmation starts Sunday, September 27, at 5 pm on Zoom! We pray that our new year of Confirmation Ministry in a new way is blessed with new relationships, growth in faith, and new connections with our youth, parents, and mentors!
Email Jacob or Pastor Carolyn if you’d like to be part of our confirmation ministry or know someone in 6th-8th grade who’d like to participate!

Celebrating Creation on 9/20

This Sunday, we will have an opportunity to join in worship with Lutherans across the country and the world in a service created and led by Lutherans Restoring Creation. In many parts of the church these last weeks of the great green growing time of the Season after Pentecost are a time to focus on creation and our care for it. In this liturgy, many wonderful leaders in our denomination will offer music, prayer, and preaching for our reflection on this theme (including Bible scholar Rev. Dr. Barbara Rossing and renowned church musician Marty Haugen).

Walk the Labyrinth

During this time of isolation and uncertainty, you might be encouraged by walking the labyrinth. The outdoor labyrinth is located in front of the main entrance to the church. It is open to people of all denominations and faith traditions 24 hours a day, seven days a week, weather permitting. Of course, these days, you should wear a face mask and maintain at least 6 feet of distance from other people.

Group Meeting Process

Beginning after Labor Day (September 8), the Peace Regathering Task Force and Congregation Council have approved our first phase of re-gathering in person (assuming local hospitalization numbers do not spike). There is a process to follow if you would like to have a meeting at church…so please read carefully!

God’s Work. Our Hands. Sept 13

Each year the ELCA designates a day and encourages its member churches to serve their neighbor by completing a service project. The date this year is September 13th. Pastor Carolyn has shared a calendar which you could use daily for the whole month. We will not be able to participate as a group to do a service project so here are a couple of additional ideas for service for yourself or your family:

God’s Work, Our Hands

Here are activities for a full month of service!

New Testament Studies

In Community Connections from September through May, we will have the opportunity to study books of the New Testament. Three Sundays a month, we will look at a specific book from the New Testament or a series of passages around a single theme.

Rally Day August 23

We  look forward to celebrating an online version of Rally Day on August 23rd at 11am! Everyone is invited to join us for a fun day of fellowship and games online. This will be a time for our kids and adults to reconnect online and check-in with each other. We will share some highs and lows, and play a few games that even our youngest children can enjoy!

Living Lutheran August issue

One of the sources and stories in the article “The Spirituality of Natural Burials” is Peace member Pastor Rodger Ericson. Some of you may know that Rodger is passionate about making burial practices more meaningful, using fewer resources and being kinder to our planet, and more affordable. Here is a link to the article.  To see more go to the Living Lutheran website.

Need Help?

Help May Be Available

As we continue through this pandemic it is possible that you or someone you know will be seriously affected. The impact may be financial, social, nutritional, or something else. There is a possibility that resources are available right here at Peace. One example of a resource are 59 shelf stable meals that have recently been donated.

Cross Trails Ministry Donations

As is our habit during months where there are five Sundays, Cross Trails Ministry is this month’s opportunity to give to a very worthy ELCA organization. Cross Trails Ministry has summer camps for children and youth at Camp Chrysalis in Kerrville and Ebert Ranch in Harper, and holds retreats throughout the year, including confirmation weekend retreats.

New School Year Blessings Aug 16

Though our times of remote worship and learning have both extended beyond what many of us expected…a new academic year is beginning, and we want to surround this transition with blessing…maybe now more than ever. As we continue to worship online on August 16…please bring your book bag, learning technologies, supplies, masks…and anything you anticipate using to support learning and teaching this year for a special blessing and prayer as part of the service.

Lord of Life Lutheran Church welcomes their new intern, Jason Mills.

Holy Communion begins Aug 2

These past five months have brought challenges, fears, and suffering…and also some surprising joys. I am grateful for technology that allows many of us to stay connected even from the distance we must keep for the sake of safety.

Donation Drive Thru on July 26

Let’s celebrate Christmas in July! On July 26, from 1:00 to 6:00 pm, you can drop off donations…both for our neighbors through Hill Country Community Ministries…and for Peace’s un-budgeted expenses to prepare for proper disinfection procedures when we regather in person.
