Pressure: Adapting and responding to this phase of the pandemic

Over the last 18 months, COVID-19 has turned (and continues to turn) our lives upside-down and has made things unpredictable, uncontrollable, and unprecedented. We are no longer just anxious about the virus itself, but the process of resuming pre-pandemic activities, the impact on the economy, our jobs, and the disruption of our daily routines as we transition to a new phase in the pandemic. The natural human response to losing our sense of control is stress, which primes us to be on high alert and to find a quick fix.

Summer Worship

Many thanks to all who have supported our transition to live streaming worship from the Sanctuary. It is so good to have our gathering rooted in that beloved sacred space again.

Pentecost Worship & Confirmation 2021

We have a special schedule for worship on Pentecost, May 23, as we celebrate the confirmation of
Evan, Ruby, Rex, and Ava!

CROP Walk 2021

We’re participating in the 2021 CROP Hunger Walk to help families who are struggling with hunger. We’re asking you to join us – with your steps and your donations – to provide more meals for the growing number of people in our community who need them, and greater food security in communities around the world. Read Ismael’s story here.

Holy Week 2021

We have come to our second pandemic-bound journey to the cross. Though this time will, yet again, not be what we hoped…we know God will lead us on this path. You are invited to connect in various ways throughout these holy days. (The schedule is immediately below and details about each day follow the schedule.)

Navigating the Vaccine Process

There are so many things in our lives that we don’t have the power to change. But there’s one very concrete thing we can do to fight the coronavirus: get vaccinated for Covid-19, to help move us towards herd immunity. Many of us have already had the first or both shots; many of us are still working on getting an appointment. The process of getting that appointment can be daunting and frustrating. We rejoice that an increasing number of our community members are being successful in getting vaccinated, but for those you haven’t been successful yet, here is some information that might help you.

Godly Play

Godly Play Comes to Big Church

For the season of Lent, our Godly Play circle will not meet live at 9:30. Instead, the Godly Play circle will be embraced within the wider circle of Big Church…where we all can share and grow from the story of Lent. If you need to come to the circle after Sunday morning, you will still find the story posted as an independent video on the Peace Facebook page.

Support—to keep from falling or yielding to stress—is something we all need. God gives us support through our Christian brothers and sisters. Let us all be sensitive to one another’s needs and take the time to support each other through prayers, phone calls, or friendly chats on Zoom.
Please remember that we have Stephen Ministers who are willing to give their support.

Resources for Lent

You may use these resources during the season of Lent:
Home Companion booklet for home worship from Lent through Pentecost

Ash Wednesday and Lent

A Lent at Home care package for your household will be delivered to local Peace community members who weren’t able to pick one up. If you would like to have a bag delivered, let us know.  Thanks to all who were able to drop off a donation of hygiene items to help stock the Mobile Loaves & Fishes truck.
Resources for Lent will be published here and in the weekly email.

Celebrate Epiphany

We remember the magi’s journey to worship the Christ child, and we participate in the world-wide tradition of blessing homes for the new year…as the magi blessed the Holy Family’s home with their visit…and as Christ blesses our earthly home by his incarnate presence. (Have some chalk handy to do your own house blessing after worship!) We will also hear a sermon from guest preacher, Jarell Wilson!

Christmas Eve Services 2020

This Christmas Eve will be unlike any we have ever known, and our Peace family has worked together from a distance to offer our praise to the God who is born among us again, in the midst of the most difficult times.

Please feel free to join in whichever parts of our Christmas Eve worship are right for you. We look forward to sharing in worship on this holiest of nights.

Feeling Stressed?

Stress: Constraining forces or influences that can cause bodily or mental tension
We’ve all felt and know what it is. But sometimes the stress level reaches a point where things begin to break. Don’t let you stress reach that point. Stephen Ministers are available to help you work through life’s difficulties and give you a safe, confidential place to vent your troubles.

Submit Photos for Advent

You’re invited to contribute photos for Advent worship or participate in wreath lighting!

Giving Tree

Deadline December 6, 2020
It’s been a tradition for Peace to support Hill Country Giving Tree by purchasing Christmas gifts for children. This year, to keep everyone safer, we’ve been asked to provide cash donations, gift cards, or direct ship from the wish list to support this project instead of purchasing gifts. Please click here to find out how to provide gifts for children in the community!

Christmas Program Online

Recording December 6, 2020 – Online Presentation December 13, 2020
This year our Children’s Christmas Program will be done online! We will record our program via Zoom, and share it on December 13th! You can find our script here. And you can sign up for a part here on Sign Up Genius. There are many different parts to be filled, and children and adults are welcome to participate!

Communion Nuts & Bolts

Each Sunday during we will gather around the sacrament of Holy Communion. And, like everything else in this age of pandemic, it’s going to look and feel different – and we trust God will be revealed in new and wonderful ways even as we muddle through what is not yet familiar. Below is a description of what we will be doing…and if you have any questions at all…please don’t hesitate to contact Pastor Carolyn

A Little Help from My Friends…

I get by with a little help from my friends…
Remember the Beatles song? We all need a concerned caring friend in these stressful times. A Stephen Minister can listen and care for you or for someone you know who is going through a rough time.
Please email us with your contact information or call the church office and and a Stephen Leader will contact you. During this period of social distancing, we can provide care by telephone, video conferencing, or other methods needed to maintain social distance.

Peace Family Bible Project

In celebration of the Reformation, and Martin Luther helping to put Scripture into the hands of all people, we will be creating our own Peace family Bible (or at least, to start with, the Gospel of Mark). All who wish are invited to sign up to hand-write one chapter of Mark’s gospel.

Lanterns on the Labyrinth

Sunday, November 22, 2020   5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Join us on November 22 near the labyrinth at Peace Lutheran Church for a meditation walk from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Lanterns/luminarias will light your way on the labyrinth that evening and Tom Winn will provide guitar instrumental music. We will wear masks and socially distance for this outdoor activity. You may also pick up a kit to make lanterns to light your Advent at home.
