HOLY WEEK & EASTER SCHEDULE
Palm Sunday – April 2 – 10:00 am
Maundy Thursday – April 6 – 7:00 pm
Good Friday – April 7 – 7:00 pm
Easter Vigil – April 8 – 7:00 pm
Easter Sunday – April 9 – 10:00 am
As we enter these most sacred days of the church’s year, you are invited to worship with us in person or online, as we journey to the cross and empty tomb…through death to resurrection…
Though we gather most often on Sunday mornings, the deepest moments of the mystery of faith are held in the Great Three Days – Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil – the liturgy that carries us to the other side of the veil and back again. We hope you can join us.
Palm Sunday – April 2 at 10 am
We process with palms and great fanfare as we remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. You are invited to bring clothes for our garment drive, as we hear how the people in Jerusalem laid branches and garments on the ground to honor Jesus. (Also, please plan to stay for the congregational meeting following worship if you can!)
Maundy Thursday – April 6 at 7 pm
We enter the Great Three Days remembering Jesus’ last meal with the disciples…and how we washed their feet and gave them the commandment to love one another as he loved them. All are offered the opportunity to receive individual forgiveness of sin…and to give and receive the act of foot washing. The service ends as the altar is stripped bare…preparing us to go with Jesus to the cross.
Good Friday – April 7 at 7 pm
We gather in quiet and darkness at the foot of the cross. We hear the reading of the Passion according to Saint John with musical reflections and depart in silence.
Easter Vigil – April 8 at 7 pm
We gather around the New Fire as the Paschal Candle is lit, and we hear the church’s ancient resurrection song, The Exultet. We read sacred stories, renew baptismal promises, and rejoice as the resurrection is proclaimed and we gather at the table for Holy Communion.
Easter Sunday – April 9 at 10 am
We gather at the empty tomb rejoicing…surrounded by the signs of celebration – flowers, trumpets. and singing. We celebrate Holy Communion and Christ’s presence with us in resurrected life.
All worship services will be streamed online at peaceaustin.org and the church facebook page. For those who worship in person, masks will be optional as long as Austin Public Health designates our area as being at Low for viral transmission rates.
