Advent and Christmas at Peace Lutheran Church

Somehow, in the midst of everything that 2020 has been, we have come to the holy days of Advent and Christmastime.

This will be a different and difficult journey…as was the journey to Bethlehem so long ago…but I am also confident that it will hold joy and holy surprises.

Below are some resources for your Advent devotions, a few invitations, and an outline of our worship plan for your own scheduling and preparations. I apologize for the length of this article…but I hope it will help you have everything you need to know to plan for Advent and Christmas with Peace!

Resources:

Luminary kits to make a home advent wreath are available thanks to the Liturgical Arts Team. Please feel free to email us if you would like one sent to you!

Starry Night – A Womanist Advent Devotional

And, here is a worship booklet for those who may not have easy internet access and need to worship on their own at home (or for additional worship for those also connecting online). It contains full liturgies and sermons from pastors across the country and the world for each week from now through the Time After Epiphany. If there is anyone you know who might need this, please share it.

Invitations to Contribute to Worship:

Wreath Lighting Prayers: You are invited to offer the Advent wreath lighting prayer during Sunday worship! If you would like to light you home Advent wreath (or your luminaries from the kits from church), please email pastorcarolyn@peaceaustin.org, and we’ll get you on the schedule.

Giving Tree

Deadline December 6, 2020
It’s been a tradition for Peace to support Hill Country Giving Tree by purchasing Christmas gifts for children. This year, to keep everyone safer, we’ve been asked to provide cash donations, gift cards, or direct ship from the wish list to support this project instead of purchasing gifts. Please click here to find out how to provide gifts for children in the community!

Christmas Program Online

Recording December 6, 2020 – Online Presentation December 13, 2020
This year our Children’s Christmas Program will be done online! We will record our program via Zoom, and share it on December 13th! You can find our script here. And you can sign up for a part here on Sign Up Genius. There are many different parts to be filled, and children and adults are welcome to participate!

Communion Nuts & Bolts

Each Sunday during we will gather around the sacrament of Holy Communion. And, like everything else in this age of pandemic, it’s going to look and feel different – and we trust God will be revealed in new and wonderful ways even as we muddle through what is not yet familiar. Below is a description of what we will be doing…and if you have any questions at all…please don’t hesitate to contact Pastor Carolyn Read more…

A Little Help from My Friends…

I get by with a little help from my friends…
Remember the Beatles song? We all need a concerned caring friend in these stressful times. A Stephen Minister can listen and care for you or for someone you know who is going through a rough time.

Please email us with your contact information or call the church office and and a Stephen Leader will contact you. During this period of social distancing, we can provide care by telephone, video conferencing, or other methods needed to maintain social distance.

Peace Family Bible Project

In celebration of the Reformation, and Martin Luther helping to put Scripture into the hands of all people, we will be creating our own Peace family Bible (or at least, to start with, the Gospel of Mark). All who wish are invited to sign up to hand-write one chapter of Mark’s gospel. Read more…
