Devotions for Lent

Post-Worship Potlucks & Devotions for Lent
February 22 – March 29

For the Sundays in Lent, we will base our post-worship potluck conversations on a devotional book from the SALT Project called “Life Stories” that places passages of scripture alongside excerpts from Madeleine L’Engle’s memoir A Circle of Quiet to explore the practice of spiritual autobiography. Through these texts we will be led to explore the sacred stories of our own lives and share them with one another.

You can access a digital version of the devotional booklet here. Print copies will also be available at church.

This will be an especially valuable experience for those new to this community, as well as those seeking to deepen their relationships here. All are welcome!

Post-Worship Potluck – February 1
What is Discipleship?

Last week and this week, we hear different accounts of how the disciples gathered to follow Jesus and join in his ministry. At potluck this week, we will look at each gospel’s telling of the calling of the disciples and see how they are similar and how they are different and what that tells us about how each gospel writer understands discipleship. And we will discuss how we understand discipleship in our own lives.

Advent 2025

The season of Advent begins November 30. Pastor Carolyn has developed an Advent Devotional Booklet as a resource to to guide you through this season.

This Advent devotional may feel a bit different. It is based on the Sunday Scriptures from the Revised Common Lectionary, but from there it brings in voices from art and poetry and literature and philosophy to help us think about how humans prepare to greet Jesus, God made flesh, with all of creation. Theologian William Greenway writes about how we are meant to be “seized by agape” for all of God’s good creation. He expands on the philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas, who focused on being “seized by the face” of other humans and feeling compelled toward compassion by truly perceiving others. Greenway wants us to expand this beyond humanity. He writes, “Living surrender to having been seized by infinite concern for every other is living surrender to God is faith.” So, throughout this season, in this devotion, you will be invited to truly behold nature, in hopes that truly seeing and loving creation will help us all better love and prepare for God to become a part
of it with us this Christmas.

Carol Sing

The Loveliest Christmas Songs Carol Sing  – December 7, 2025 at 5pm

There is a much beloved Finnish holiday tradition, called “The Loveliest Christmas Songs”. Each December the churches in Finland provide an opportunity for everyone to sing Christmas Carols together. This is not a religious service, there is no sermon or prayers or readings; it is simply singing favorite Christmas Carols with others. Singing together lifts the spirit and brings joy. Peace Lutheran Church (10625 N FM 620) invites the community on Sunday, December 7 at 5:00 PM. December. to sing “The Loveliest Christmas Songs” together. Light refreshments will be available afterward. It is free to all.
