Mobile Loaves and Fishes
Mobile Loaves and Fishes Truck

The Social Ministry Board is excited to announce a new service opportunity for the members of Peace.  Mobile Loaves and Fishes (MLF) is a program that provides food and clothing directly to the homeless and working poor.  St. Thomas More Catholic Church runs a daily truck for MLF and Peace will be providing the staffing for the truck team on the 3rd Saturday of each month.  Our next run will be May 19.

This truck team consists of 6 people: one truck captain, who drives the truck, and 5 volunteers.  The suggested age for the volunteers is 12 years and up so this makes it great way to volunteer as a family.  There is a separate team that loads the truck with 150 sandwiches, clothing and other essential items.  The truck then makes a designated run starting at 5:00 PM and stops at street corners, under bridges and at housing projects.  The total time for the run is usually 2-3 hours, which includes the time to drive to the location, hand out everything and return.

You may be aware of the good work already being done with the Meals on Wheels program here at Peace.  It’s important to note that these two programs serve different communities.  Meals on Wheels serves the homebound and elderly while Mobile Loaves and Fishes serves the homeless and working poor.

Please prayerfully consider donating your time to serve in this program.  A website has been set up to so you can easily sign up for upcoming dates.  You can sign up on your own or 2 families could sign up together.  There are many ways to make this work.  This time will also count towards service hours for middle and high school students.
