The kindergarten Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills established by the Texas Education Agency are used as a curriculum guide for the kindergarten program. Planned activities are correlated to knowledge and skill acquisition in the following areas: English language arts and reading, mathematics, science, social studies, health education, physical education, art, music, theatre, and technology application.
Using the curriculum guides noted above, teachers create a classroom environment where children learn through play. Each class is set up in centers, allowing children many activity choices. Children have frequent opportunities to visit the homeliving, block, art, science/nature, manipulative, sensory and book centers. In addition to these activities, teachers plan activities centered around a weekly theme. Activities related to the theme may include art projects, group time, experiments, songs, stories and occasional field trips. All activities are correlated to the curriculum for the specified age group. Children also participate daily in outside play on the shaded playground. Other activities include a weekly Chapel time as well as Creative Movement, a combination music and movement class. Lesson plans are posted outside each classroom to let you know what your child is learning each week. Weekly notes are also sent home to share classroom happenings and inform parents of upcoming events.
