Music is a primary language of the people of God at worship. Breathing together, with voice and instrument, voicing the word of God together, sounding joy and praise and lament together, we express and experience the Spirit of the risen Christ. Martin Luther called the music of worship a “handmaiden of the liturgy.” Liturgy comes from a Greek word meaning “the work of the people,” and Luther promoted that music of various kinds is crucial in the life of a faith community. Music is a vehicle for proclaiming the Gospel and making music is an important part of discipleship.
Who offers music ministry at Peace?
A church is one of the few places today in our culture that people of many ages sing together. Peace is blessed with musicians of many ages, skill levels and abilities. Children, youth and adults at Peace lead music by singing, playing keyboards, guitars, mandolins, banjos and ukuleles, ringing handbells, playing clarinets, flutes, oboes, violins, cellos, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, french horns, tubas, drums, percussion and praying with and for one another. Groups lead music throughout the year for Sunday worship services and special services and events. Musicians also offer vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios.
